New Year, New Name

Change is hard for an old Taurus like me. When we find something comfortable we like to sit with it … for a long time. But then one day, something starts to move and shift and then all of a sudden we realize we need something different. And lately I feel like the this newsletter has been needing something different, too. A different name, a different format, and some different content as well.

Today, I’m excited to be relaunching the Dream Journal newsletter as Electric Light. There’s more than just a new name — we’re also trying a new platform here on Substack. I like that it has a really simple interface and allows readers to like, comment, and share on each post.

My favourite part is that you can listen to this newsletter! [Look for a play button at the top of this page ▶️] I’ve been musing on how to reincarnate the Neon Dreamer radio show and this is a fun way to start making audio again. There will be readings, music, and field recordings sprinkled through the newsletter each week. That’s right! You’ll be getting your ‘scopes every week!

The lesson this week is that there is strength in silence. When we sit still and stay very quiet we’re able to see the world (and ourselves) more clearly. I know it’s hard for an Aries to hold back their reactions, but it’s worth trying. You don’t need to suppress your feelings. Instead, try to let them to flow without taking action. Why is this important? Well, a feisty little Aries may get attached to the very first feeling that makes itself known. When you allow the waves of emotion flow by, you may discover deeper layers of your own thoughts and feelings that were hidden by all that surface layer noise.

Taurus

Card: Eight of Coins

You’re a dedicated little bull, Taurus. You show up to do the Work everyday, but lately it’s been hard to see the progress you’ve made. However, wisdom is not a peak to summit or an achievement to be mounted on a plaque, it’s an internal transformation bound in time. We may struggle against this reality, feeling trapped in the clockwork of time. However, our consciousness is what creates linear time as we know it. If we stop struggling, just for a moment, we’d see that we are not being swept along by this current but integral to its flow. You are in fact a creator of moments. How will you use your time?

You’re in the middle of completing a significant process, Gemini. However, it’s hard for you to enjoy this moment. Your restless spirit is always asking “what’s happen next?” This is it. You’re looking at it. Life is happening. I know stillness can be a struggle for you Geminis, but maybe you can find the “action” you’re looking for with this internal struggle. Don’t feel like wrestling with yourself? Maybe it sounds too tedious (or terrifying) but the stakes are high. If you take this time to be with yourself a new door will open and change will blow through your life like the summer wind.

Cancer

Card: Six of Cups

Generosity comes as second nature to you, little crab. This week, the six of cups overflows with abundance, so be prepared to receive as much as you give. The stars have aligned and all your hard work is about to pay off. You can finally exhale as everything falls into place. It’s okay to feel proud of what you have accomplished. I know it’s hard for you to believe, but you deserve all of the happiness and reward you are about to receive. Maybe you can celebrate this win by taking your loved ones out for a lavish meal. Enjoy being surrounded by their love and allow yourself be happy.

Leo

It’s time to put your game face on and get to business, Leo. This week marks the kick-off for an intensely busy season as projects get launched or taken to the next level. It’s nothing you can’t handle. After all, you have experienced significant growth over the past six months and now you’re stepping up into leadership and finding your stride. You can trust your own wisdom to take you where you need to go. Just try not to let all this new power go to your head ;)

Virgo

Card: The Magician

Congratulations, Virgo! You finally have what you’ve always wanted — control. You’re killing it at work! You’re mastering your emotions! Balancing your resources! You’re operating on full BOSS MODE! But what’s wrong? Oh, right. It’s hard doing it all on your own, but that’s not what anyone expects from you. Just because you need to ask for help doesn’t make you any less of a Boss™️. Asking for support when it’s needed is still a boss move. Don’t be afraid to offload tasks that drain your energy. You need the space to zoom out and get focused on your Big Picture goals.

Libra

Card: Night of Wands

The knight of wands dares you to be BOLD, Libra. Stand up, raise your flag, and charge! Not sure what your “cause” is yet? It doesn’t matter. What matters is the fire burning inside you wants you to MOVE. Do anything to get started then change direction, and then change direction again! I’m not encouraging you to be a flake but I want you to start listening to your gut — and then do something about it. You need to experience some things before you know how you feel. If you find out it’s not for you at least learned something in the process. Don’t worry about what other people will think. They are not living your life, you are.

Scorpio

Card: Strength

Sweet Scorpio, some people may misread you as a bit of a grouch, but I see you for the old softie that you are. All of that exterior toughness is designed to protect a very tender heart. You may not realize it but Love is actually your secret power. But why does it have to stay a secret? Opening your heart and expressing your feelings doesn’t have to take the form of an embarrassing public display. A little goes a long way. With Valentine’s Day around the corner it’s a good time to think about how you can express your feelings and reinforce the important relationships in your life. Sometimes, three little words is all it takes.

Sagittarius

Get ready, Sagittarius, you are about to launch something big! You’ve been secretly designing a masterpiece for quite a while and now you finally have all the resources you need in place. All you have to do at this point is let things take their natural course. The one piece of advice I have for you is don’t get hung up about not starting earlier or things not being “perfect” right away. I know you can already see the future and it frustrates you that you’re not there yet. Don’t worry, it will all come together — like it always does… But you still have to go through all the steps before you can get there. Just breathe and trust the vision.

Capricorn

Like the Phoenix out of the fire you are rising again, Capricorn. The winter has been long and dark but you can already feel the light returning. This change may be imperceptible to outside observers, so you are free to keep this boost of energy all for yourself. Aquarius, you are on FIRE. You have found your stride and people are noticing your swagger. However, you might not be able to see it while you’re eyeball deep in taking care of business. Are you on fire because you’ve been busy putting out fires? Maybe. But you are winning the battle. Sometimes I think it might be necessary for you to get to this chaotic sort of place so that you can get out of your head. I know everything might look like a mess right now, but when the smoke clears you’ll be amazed at everything you’ve accomplished.

It’s about time to get out of your head and get into the world, Pisces. Imagination isn’t enough to sustain you anymore. In fact, it’s your imagination that wants adventure. It wants to send you on a quest to find new inspiration. Book a trip or go to the library, you just need a new way to escape your mundane reality. Not that there is anything particularly WRONG with your reality… It’s just been getting a little stale. Some new landscapes and fresh air will breathe colour back into your life and help stimulate your creative juices. When you return, you’ll be excited to start creating something NEW.
